Colour photographic frontispiece, showing author and Eekie the Parrot. The text is illustrated with black-and-white photographs and a few facsimiles of documents. Blue coloured cloth covered boards with gilt illustration to the lower right-hand corner of the front panel and gilt coloured titles to the backstrip. Colour illustrated dustwrapper with blue and ochre coloured titles to the front panel and backstrip. Black-and-white photograph of author to the rear dustwrapper panel. "On October 15, 1954, William Willis achieved the impossible. Alone on a sinking raft, battered by nearly 4 months of storms and wind, exhausted from lack of sleep, he landed at Pago Pago in British Samoa, 6700 miles from the starting point in Callao, Peru. He had sailed not only further, but also faster than the Kon-Tiki expedition, to complete what has been called "the greatest solo trip since Charles Lindbergh's famous flight". -- from the front fold over panel blurb.
