London: Oxford University Press / Humphrey Milford, 1927. First Edition. Cloth. Fine/Fine. Tall 8vo, cloth, profusely illustrated with colored ethnographic map as frontispiece and 93 figures in the text & 6 B&W photographic plates on glossy stock, Mylar-protected typographic dust jacket (unclipped), [xvi] + 354 pages + [2]. Internally clean, tight, and bright with all plates present. Neat signature of previous owner ["William Wheeling"] in ink on upper right of title page. Slight losses to extremities of the otherwise Very Scarce original dust jacket. Light pencil marginalia--easily eraseable if so desired. An important study of human distribution and localized adaptations. Though the term "race" has become suspect based upon modern genetics (and a repugnance for "racism"), it is true from an evolutionary and historical perspective that early humans adapted significantly to their local environments. This study lays the groundwork for ongoing ethnographic and genetic studies of humans in all their diversity.
