About This Item

Williamsburg, VA: Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, 1975. Hardcover. VG-/G+ (book shows minor shelf wear, all pages clear and intact - dust jacket has wear at corners and spine, with two small tears at top and bottom of back cover, still protective). Teal cloth boards with blue leather spine, dark blue w/ color pictorial dust jacket, xiii, 132pp, 49 color and BW plates, several figures. "... The Colonial Williamburg Foundation has acquired, over the past four decades, a small collection of various kinds of floor coverings to be used in its exhibition buildings. A selection of forty-nine items from the collections appears in this volume. Each is shown in full-color, full-page illustration - with supplementary detail shots in some cases: a total of fifty-seven. Complete technical data accompanies each - its construction, condition, and the intricacies of its design. With refreshing candor the author reviews very briefly the history of carpetmaking in England and the Near and Middle East over the past three centuries as well as the documentation for carpeting in colonial Virginia. Being in the strict sense a catalog, the bulk of the work deals with specific carpets rather than carpets in general." - dust jacket description.
