About This Item

London/Geneva: Heron Books, 1966. Hardback. Collectible. Fine. No DW as published in this special edition of Priestley's collected oeuvre. 422 pages including index. No annotations or inscriptions. Octavo size = 8vo. Dark blue faux-leather cloth cover with gilt titling on spine and gilt bordering and decorations on covers. Gilt decorative endpapers, Place marker silk ribbon in place. Firm binding, bright and clear content throughout. Priestley's 1933 journey "in search of Englishness":- "Being a rambling but truthful account of what one man saw and heard and felt and thought during a journey through England during the Autumn of the Year 1933." "His analysis still holds up very well 'with a quite uncanny relevance to the present state of the nation." That's possibly even more true now than it was when first published in 1934. An excellent example of the handsome books which Heron printed in Switzerland in the 1960s. Original frontispiece drawing of Priestley (complete with pipe!) by Daniel Briffaud. Would make a fine gift. .
