About This Item

London: The Folio Society, 1997 . Cloth. Fine/Fine. 10.5" by 8". Not Stated. An illustrated edition of J. B. Priestley's politically charged account of his travels in England in 1933, a work that, according to the introduction, 'has even been credited with winning the 1945 election for the Labour Party'. Beautifully illustrated throughout with contemporary photographic plates, and housed in the publisher's original slip case, this is a lovely edition of the English novelist, playwright, screenwriter, broadcaster and social commentator J. B. Priestley's account of his travels in England in the 1930s.First published in 1934, Priestley was commissioned by publisher Victor Gollancz to write a study of contemporary England, sharing observations on the social problems he witnesses, and appeals for democratic socialist change. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with pictorial paper covered slip case. Externally, fine. Small area of light spotting to head of slip case rear board, otherwise excellent. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright. Fine
