English naturalist James Sowerby published what would become the preeminent illustrated work on English botany. Entitled simply, 'English Botany.' This work was a compendium of the native plants in Great Britain. Sowerby provided beautiful illustrations accompanied by descriptions of the various properties, natural habitat, and other characteristics of numerous plants across Britain.
This edition includes 72 beautifully hand-colored botanical plates including views of Smooth-stalked Meadow Grass, Soapwort, and Strawberry-headed Trefoil.
