New York: Harper and Brothers, 1935. Hardcover. 316p. An extraordinarily sharp-looking copy, hardbound first edition in green boards with spine-label in blue and yellow, art-deco dust jacket. We see no flaws in appearance, completely fresh, sound and clean. A novel by a Harvard professor of medicine, who had penned a bestselling non-fiction study of east Asian animals, Kamongo. The item in hand is set in the same parts of the world. Dj text describes novel's plot as a kind of Heart of Darkness with light at the end of the tunnel: "His adventures take him across the China Sea to Malaya. There he is plunged into a strange ménage of three-- a girl, an engineer and a doctor -- who are living under the shadow of death and the suspicion of murder. His adventures in this strange world , instead of leading him far afield, lead him back to his own soul.
