Donald M. Grant, West Kingston, Rhode Island, 1978. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good Condition/Good. Illustrator: Photographic. Introduction by compiler, acknowledgements, index to first-line of poems, the sorcerer departs by Clark Ashton Smith, 14 letters and list of photographs. Black and white photographic frontispiece showing Clark Ashton Smith at 19 years of age. The text is illustrated with the very occasional black and white photograph. Gold coloured cloth covered boards with gilt coloured titles to the back strip. Illustrated dustwrapper, by Ned Dameron, with black coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. Quoting the front fold over panel blurb " ... There is little question that the California poet, short story writer, sculptor, and painter, Clark Ashton Smith (1893-1961) has become one of the most imposing figures in the weird genre. His literary friend of many years, H. P. Lovecraft, acknowledged that 'In sheer daemonic strangeness and fertility of conception, Clark Ashton Smith is perhaps and excelled by any other writer dead or living.'" A listing of all the works, both weird and otherwise, that was the output of this author. Rubbing of the lower book edges and a little softening of the back stop very light age toning of the text block edges and pages. Previous owners name to the top right hand corner of the free front end page; with some handling marks present to both end pages. Chipping of the dustwrapper corners and back strip corners, especially the top edge. Results of insect activity can be seen to the left hand edge of the front panel, back strip and top edge of the rear panel. Sunning of the back strip and remnants of a sticker can be seen to the top right hand corner of the front panel. Size: 4to 9¾" - 12" tall. Please refer to accompanying picture (s).
