About This Item
London: Chatto & Windus, 1917 A good copy of the 2nd issue of Chatto's edition of Emma, illustrated by A Wallis Mills. Vols 7 and 8 of their 10 volume set of Austen's novels, part of the St Martin's illustrated library of standard authors. Bound in cream cloth with gilt titles and with decorative endpapers, colour frontispieces and 9 further colour plates per volume. Top page edges gilted; bottom page edges untrimmed. Bookplate of E and C Fison in each volume. The books are clean and sound but the text paper is very foxed and toned, particularly at the beginning and end of each volume and at page edges. Bindings with darkened spines and some light marking to boards. Light pulling to spine ends. Contents complete with bright plates not affected by the foxing and toning to the text paper. Vol I has a small repaired side edge tear at p259 and a small hole in the rear free endpaper. Vol II has some splitting to the bottom of the rear endpaper joint. Vol I 318 pp; Vol II 311 pp. Please enquire if you would like to see additional images.

About E C Books
E C Books is a small online bookselling business, specialising in pre 20th century works:natural history, science, history, and travel, aiming for rarer and more unusual books. Our largest stock area is Natural History, where we have a good range of books from the 1700-1800's, many finely illustrated. Other areas include children's books, particularly late 1800's-early 1900's - again illustrated; and literature pre 1900.When you order books from us we ensure that they are properly packed to protect condition, and we always use recorded or 'signed for' postal services for more secure delivery. Please note that we have recently moved to the beautiful Orkney Islands, where we intend to open a bookshop over the next year. Because of our location we cannot guarantee 'next day' delivery but we will get your purchase to you as quickly and safely as we can. Please note that the buyer is responsible for the payment of any tax or duty on import.
