About This Item

Stanford, California: Stanford University Press, 1950. First Edition, 2nd Printing . Hardcover. Very Good+/Very Good. First-person account by an early native American Jesuit priest who was widely popular--yet not without controversy--in the San Francisco area of the 1860s, where he began ministering to the miners who had come to California to stake a claim in the Mother Lode. In 380 pages with Index, black-and-white photos throughout with glossy photographic frontispiece. Orig. published in 1949, this is the Second Printing (1950) of that FIRST EDITION, & it is SIGNED with a long, personalized inscription to ffep. With navy blue cloth-covered boards stamped & lettered in bright gilt to spine, this hardcover 8vo is in VG+ condition: exceptionally clean, but with foxing to outside page edges, very mild page tanning to interior, but unmarked. Binding strong & straight, hinges intact. The unclipped DJ is VG: colorful with mild tanning, minor edgewear, short tear ascending from heel of spine where it intersects front cover, lesser chipping to other edges & corners; nicely protected in new mylar cover Free (removed for photo). Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have!
