About This Item
Boston/ New York: Phillips, Sampson and Company/ J.C. Derby, 1855. 'seventh thousand' . Blind-stamped Black Cloth. Good+/No Jacket (none issued). 13 Cm X 19.5 Cm. 426+(5, pub. notices); lacks front endpaper, early library label pf the Quebec-based Francophone Catholic Seminaire de Sherbrooke to front pastedown + early Vermont bookseller's small label top same, same library's accession stamp to facing blank fly + brown rectangle off-set from pastedown label, and another smaller stamp in bottom margin p.9 (first page of Introduction), two trivial paper scraps from removed labels on rear endpaper and pastedown, top textblock edge a little dust-darkened, main text clean, tight and unmarked bar an odd full page crossing out and word to last entry in pub. notices; covers clean but marred by slight spine-end rubbing/chipping, further cloth loss due to rubbing along much of front joint (see image). Given the darkness of the off-set brown rectangle on front blank fly I feel the excision of the front endpaper must have occured when the Seminaire (founded 1875) library acquired it, presumably in latter 19th century. A classic of the U.S. 'Mental and Moral Philosophy' genre which preceded the emergence of Psychology proper in the later 19th century. Uncommon in reasonable condition. Note: quoted non-UK shipping rates are calculated for 500-700 gram net weight, cost will be modified up or down as appropriate outside this range.
