About This Item

London: Lockyer Davis, 1773. Whole volume, iv [adverts], vii, 507pp. The List of the Royal Society, 8pp. 160 x 220mm. 20 copper pll. Bookplate of Sir WM. J. Pope to front paste-down. Quarter calf with marbled boards. Spine is rubbed, detached at p. 300, otherwise a very good copy. The first accurate study of the electrical organs of the torpedo fish were made by Walsh, who was given the Copely Medal of the Royal Society for his work on the subject. Walsh proved that the shock of the torpedo was electrical, and that the fish could only send the shock through a conductor. Garrison-Morton.com No. 589.
