George Andrew Reisner (1867 –1942) was an American archaeologist specializing in Ancient Egypt, Nubia and Palestine. He also created a list of Egyptian viceroys of Kush. He found the tomb of Queen Hetepheres I, the mother of King Khufu (Cheops in Greek) who built the Great Pyramid at Giza. During this time he also explored mastabas. Arthur Merton (London Times) remarked in 1936 in the aftermath of the Abuwtiyuw discovery that Reisner "enjoys an unrivalled position not only as the outstanding figure in present-day Egyptology, but also as a man whose soundness of judgement and extensive general knowledge are widely conceded. In Egypt, Reisner developed a new archaeological technique which became a standard in the profession, combining the British methods of Petrie, the German methods of Dorpfeld and Koldewey, his own American practicality and his skill for large-scale organization. In 1908, after a decade in Egypt, Reisner headed the Harvard excavation of Samaria. … The Ingersoll Lectures on Human Immortality were established by a bequest by Caroline Haskell Ingersoll, who left $5000 for the institution of a series of lectures to be read annually. The lectures were to take place at Harvard University on the subject of "the immortality of man". The lectures were initiated in 1896 and were to be published. From 1896 to 1912 they were issued by the Houghton Mifflin Company of Boston and New York. From 1914 to 1935 Harvard University Press published them. Since then, the lectures have been published in the Harvard Divinity Bulletin.
