About This Item
Boston: Appalachian Mountain Club, 1982. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Very Good. 291 pp, with glossary and many b/w illustrations. Dust jacket is rubbed at the corners and has a few short closed tears. Barber was an early advocate of clean climbing and a prolific solo climber who claimed many first solo ascents, mostly in the 1970s. This book covers his climbing career from his teens through the controversy surrounding his attempt on Kilimanjaro, in which climbing partner Rob Taylor was seriously injured and accused Barber of abandoning him.
