New York: Harper & Brothers Publishers, 1935. First edition of this work by Knight, whom F.A. Hayek proclaimed, "to be one of the major figures in preserving and promoting classical liberal thought in the twentieth century." Octavo, original cloth. Association copy, inscribed by the author to the British economist Lionel Robbins on the front free endpaper, "To Lionel Robbins with cordial regards. Frank H. Knight." At the London School of Economics, Robbins "dominated the economics department for thirty years and built it up to its pre-eminent position in British economics" (ODNB). Frank Knight was one of the founders of the Chicago School, with his students including the Nobel laureates Milton Friedman, George Stigler and James M. Buchanan. In very good condition. A nice association linking these two giants of twentieth century economic thought. Frank H. Knight, one of the founding members of the Chicago School of economics. He coined the term Knightian Uncertainty and among his students were Milton Friedman, George Stigler and James M. Buchanan. Ronald Coase said that Knight, without teaching him, was a major influence on his thinking.
