Boston: Roberts Brothers, 1896. First Edition. Octavo. Publisher's gray-gilt pictorial cloth; 216pp; photographic text illustrations (halftones). Spine ends and corners just touched; inoffensive toning to endpapers, with old offsetting from jacket flaps (jacket no longer present); overall an attractive, Near Fine copy with the pictorial elements of the binding still bright. Account of the U.S. eclipse expedition to equatorial Africa in 1889. Loomis was a long-time staff astronomer at the American Ephemeris and Nautical Almanac, and also the father of author and editor Mabel Loomis Todd.
