Cloth binding, 81 pp. Collected for the first time in the only English translation authorized by the Vatican. The poems were written by the new Pope while he was still a parish priest and auxiliary bishop of Krakow. They embrace a variety of styles and subjects, ranging from sharply drawn profiles to the challenging philosophical poem, "The Quarry" from the meditative Roman sequence to the masterly and moving "Easter Vigil 1966". Previous owner name to front endpaper, neat library stamp to rear endpaper (no other library marks, no pocket). Corner of dust jacket bent. Very good in near fine dustjacket, protected with a mylar cover..
