Barbey, issued in conjunction with Steinbeck's having been awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature, Rombaldi would annually print such a Nobel laureate-related work, the book includes two speeches delivered at Steinbeck's Nobel ceremonies as well as an introduction by Dr. Kjell Stromberg, followed by the text for Tortilla Flat and a Steinbeck bibliography, illustrated on the front cover in color by Picasso, also illustrated with a woodcut illustration of Steinbeck by Michel Cauvet, it also includes eight full-page color illustrations by Fontanarosa as well as an extra suite of eight full-page color lithographs bound in the rear, see Goldstone & Payne D182, this was the Jacob J. Foster copy. Fine.

This is the 12th Travis McGee mystery and the first American hardcover, it carries the proper $5.50 dust jacket price and the 372 code at the top of the front jacket flap, this was Adrian Goldstone's copy bearing his bookplate, Goldstone was perhaps the most noted collector of mystery/detective novels and his John Steinbeck collection was the basis for the Goldstone & Payne bibliography of Steinbeck. Very good in a fine dust jacket.

Nearly fine.

McGregor Home, Tootier McGregor established the A. M. McGregory Home in 1904 in East Cleveland, OH to honor her late husband, Ambrose, a close associate of John D. Rockefeller. Very good plus.

Original slate-blue cloth with title, author, publisher, and decorations in gilt, front cover in burgundy, with 40-page publisher's catalogue of books for sale at the end dated June 1908, one of 1,500 copies, these short stories originally appear serially, the stories are Gaspar Ruiz, The Informer, The Brute, An Anarchist, The Duel, and Il Conde, Smith 14, Cagle A13a(2), Keating 81. Front cover lettering dulled, some age, else a nearly fine copy.

This is an extremely important study by a once-promising young native American scholar who, sadly, took his own life a few years ago, but who left the world of Steinbeck scholarship this landmark study and a number of other books, with this book Owens "examines how Steinbeck used this would-be Eden (California) to explore the moral bankruptcy of American society, to explore the corruption that lay beneath the beckoning surface of the American dream," this is a very scarce book that seldom comes on the market. Fine, with no fading along jacket spine as is so common with this book.
