About This Item
[Italy], [c. 1720?]. Period stiff vellum with paper spine; 8vo (102 x 160 mm); pp. 287, closely written Italic and Gothic script, in brown ink, on recto and verso (handwriting becomes increasingly minute as entries progress). Front board stained and cracked; some faint browning along edges of text block, not infringing upon legibility.
Attractive manuscript travel dictionary, with entries in Italian and definitions in German and on Italian paper but with a period German ex-libris inscription. The anonymous author lays the text out comfortably in the beginning, but becomes constrained by space -- at Z, the text becomes dense and the definitions run on from each other.
