Each Dawn I Die by Jerome Odlum - 1938

HATFIELD BOOKS AND MEMORABILIA, a FIVE STAR SELLER, presents a HIGHLY SIGNIFICANT and VERY RARE FIRST EDITION ASSOCIATION COPY of EACH DAWN I DIE by JEROME ODLUM. Odlum writes on the first fep (see photo) : "To Horace McCoy—Why do you keep on writing stories that keep – not only me, my friend, but also Mildred, - awake with the dark horrors. Congratulations on 'I Should Have Stayed Home,' 'They Shoot Horses Don't They,' 'No Pockets in a Shroud'" (signed) Jerome Odlum." This original novel has never been reprinted. Odlum wrote the screenplay (and in some cases the original novel) for 18 movies from 1939 to 1968). EACH DAWN I DIE became a 1939 Warner Bros movie with James Cagney and George Raft, though the screenplay was crafted by someone else. HORACE MCCOY (They Shoot Horses Don't They) was an even more prolific novelist and screenwriter than was Odlum. He had 47 films to his credit. First Edition stated. 5 ¼ x 7 ¾, 291 pages. Overall condition = GOOD PLUS, having moderate tanning throughout, no add'l marks. Blue hard cover moderately worn and scraped, though gold gilt printing still present, front foxed, entire tight, no unraveling or chipping. Jacket is missing. Noted appraiser James Beattie placed a value of $140 on this book.
