Erich Stegmann was one of the really remarkable men of the 20th century - a true hero of his time. As a small child in Darmstadt he lost the use of his arms through polio. Such was his determination to overcome his disability that, having taught himself to paint with mouth-held brushes, he became a professional artist. In 1956 his dream of a co-operative to enable such artists to achieve independence through the collective marketing of their work was realised in the form of the Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists. Erich devoted himself to it until his death in 1984. Few men have left such a legacy of self-help and encouragement. A near MINT copy of an inspirational biography.
