(CALIFORNIA GOLD RUSH). DS. 1pg. July 22, 1850. Sacramento City, [California Territory]. A demand note signed “Barton Lee” as a banker. The partially-printed note entitles the bearer to two hundred dollars plus 5% interest, payable in gold dust one month hence. Barton Lee and Baker & Company was a popular Sacramento bank. California would become a state seven weeks later, on September 9, 1850. This interesting piece of California Gold Rush memorabilia is in very good condition with light wear.
