A deluxe Franklin Library first edition of Bernard Malamud's novel, which is the story of a writer who specializes in biographies of noted authors. With a special introductory note by author and illustrations by Mark Bellerose. Issued as part of the publisher's First Edition Society series which preceded the Farrar, Straus and Giroux trade edition. One of an unspecified number in this limited edition. --- Bound in full dark green bonded leather covers with four raised bands on spine. Text presented on quality papers. Spine titling, elaborate decorations to covers and spine, and textblock edges all in bright gilt. Green silk moire endpapers, with matching sewn-in satin ribbon placemarker. Volume lacks a dust jacket (as issued). --- With 4 scratches to textblock fore-edge gilding with corresponding indentations to cover fore-edge, shallow dents to 3 spine bands and a binder's flaw to front cover leather, else a crisp, tightly-bound, bright and possibly unread copy.; Octavo - 8 to 9 in. tall; (14), 449 pages .
