LAWSON, ROBERT. LAWSON,ROBERT. ORIGINAL ART: DRUMS OF MONMOUTH. Offered here are 2 finished pen and ink drawings by Lawson for the book Drums of Monmouth by Emma Sterne, published by Dodd Mead in 1935. The drawings are both on one piece of artist board 14 1'2" high x 11" with the images 10 x 5" taken together. The top image is signed and the verso has the address of Dodd Mead and the title of the book. The pieces appear as a full page illustration on page 53 of the book and a 1/3 page illustration of Sergeant Amos Duke on page 187. They are characteristic of Lawson's incredible mastery of pen and ink illustration. His attention to detail makes the characters come alive. Because the main body of Lawson's work is held by a library, original published works by him rarely appear on the market. Sold with a 1st ed. of the book.
