Droll Stories Collected From the Abbeys of Touraine: London: Chatto & Windus, 1874. 12mo, English edition, pp. xxxii, 651, added endpages, red cloth boards three-quarter-bound in red calf, 2 leather labels and gilt ornaments to spine, top edge gilt, extensive illustration by Gustave Dore. Gordon Ray said of the 1855 French edition: "This is Dore's early masterpiece" (p. 331, The Art of the French Illustrated Book, Dover). Condition of this book: Calf worn at edges, chips in spine labels, overall very good. Size: 12mo. Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting.
