Jonathan Cape, London., 1951. First edition. Octavo. 317 pages. Colour frontispiece and numerous black and white photographs, all taken by the author. Folding map. The first of the author's travel books and one which, rumour has it, inspired Graham Greene to make his own journey in the area and come to write The Quiet American.Bookplate on front pastedown. Endpapers very slightly spotted. Slight mottling to covers. Bottom corner of rear cover bumped. Very good in very good dustwrapper with some rubbing and a 2 cm closed tear at tail of spine.
