About This Item
London: Methuen & Co., 1962. First edition. Cloth. Near Fine/Very Good Indeed. 8" by 5.5". Not Stated. A very smart, first edition copy of this novel by Christopher Isherwood, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. A complex novel of self-discovery and dualism, written by Anglo-American writer Christopher Isherwood. The main character of this work, also called Christopher, meets four other central characters who influence him in some way. The multiple Christophers in this novel are different from one another, and the author often visits them 'down there', a realm of loneliness, alienation, and hatred. This novel explores the themes of authority, hedonism, sexuality, self-discovery, and identity, often using dark humour as a tool to access these. In the original unclipped dust wrapper, designed by Don Bachardy. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, excellent with no discernible shelf wear. Unclipped dust wrapper is smart with some minor shelf wear. Some slight age-toning and chips to the extremities. A mark to the front wrap and a closed tear to the rear wrap. Internally, firmly bound. A few marks to the fore-edge, not affecting the pages, which are bright and clean. Near Fine
