About This Item
New York: William Morrow and Company. Near Fine in Near Fine dj. (c.1993). First Edition. Hardcover. [nice-looking copy, slight bumping to upper corners but no other discernible wear; the jacket shows a touch of surface wear, with some very light horizontal scratch lines across the middle of the front panel]. (B&W/color photographs) INSCRIBED briefly and SIGNED by the author on the title page. Yet another "Gallery of the Celebrated with Commentary by the Equally Celebrated," as 101 of the Beautiful (or at least Well-Known) People submit to the author's probing (or maybe just poking) lens, and for their trouble get a big close-up and eventually the pleasure of reading what one of their "artistic peers" thinks of them. Tim Burton, by Vincent Price; Truman Capote by Lauren Bacall; Helmut Newton by Dennis Hopper; ad infinitum, ad celebritatum. (That's Latin for All Celebrities, All the Time.) You can't help but wonder if somebody, at some point, didn't say "Roddy, I love you, but if you stick that camera in my face one more time.....?" On the other hand, the total amount of money their subjects probably spent framing these prints was probably a significant portion of the California economy. This was the final volume of the series, and is less commonly found signed than the others -- possibly because McDowall stopped signing (i.e. died) just five years after its publication. (NOTE that what appear to be slight "notches" at the edges of the scanned images are due to an anomaly with our scanner, and are not features of the actual book.) ****NOTE that additional postage charges will be assessed for international shipping of this large, heavy volume; if this concerns you, please contact us for a shipping quote before placing your order.**** Signed by Author .
