To keep them down, the Toveys bought a baby donkey. Annabel was tiny, shaggy, and enchanting, with a bouffant fringe and a most femininely determined disposition. To begin with, she was determined to go back to Mum, on the sands at Weston. Her statement of this intention kept the entire neighbourhood awake for a week. She soon, however, decided that she was going to stay after all, and began eating everything she could see - except, of course, the nettles. The activities of Annabel and her attendant satellites - Solomon (the Siamese cat, who liked her and insisted on sleeping in her bed) and Sheba (his mate, who pretended she Wasn't There), Miss Wellington (who said poor-dear-she-must-be-lonely), Henry the jennet (who was accordingly imported as a companion for her) and many others - all of these could fill a book. And they do - most hilariously." Tiny foxing marks on endpapers and adjacent pages, browning and tiny foxing marks on edges of textblock, a few tiny stains on bottom of textblock, very light edgewear, minor wrinking at top/bottom of spine, small bump on spine. Dust jacket has moderate edgewear/wrinkling, a few tiny and small tears, light browning on spine and flap-folds, light rubbing and soiling - mainly on rear panel - now protected in removable mylar sleeve..
