From the library of Lawrence Y. Sherman (1858-1939) , a Republican senator from Illinois. Flexible pebbled leather covers with gilt lettering on cover. Rubbing, wear, and chipping to leather along edges and joints; tears to both joints at ends of spine; fading to spine. Binding is tight. Interior is clean except for light toning. Text block has marbled edges. "Doniphan's Expedition" includes black-and-white illustrations and maps. "Doniphan's Expedition" is a soldier's account of the Mexican-American War that details General Kearny's march to California, Col. Doniphan's campaign against the Navajos, and the invasion of Chihuahua. "Occupation of Mexican Territory" shares President James K. Polk's answer to a December 15, 1846 resolution from the House of Representatives along with 24 accompanying papers, including General Kearny's "organic law… of the Territory of New Mexico."
