About This Item

MP3 Audio CD. Dodo Wonders is the third and final of the Dodo series written by E.F. Benson, author of the Mapp and Lucia stories and a number of outstanding books and short fiction. Dodo was gossiped to be centered on Lady Margot Asquith and when it was probed, Lady Asquith seemingly responded that Benson had seized naught from her for the fictional character of Dodo apart from their small talk.

Dodo Wonders takes place during the World War I period in England where the characters, the glinting jetsetter Lady Dodo Chesterford, her husband, and friends were brought. The story tells of Dodo and her company through the accrual, upsurge, and disastrous times of the war. Benson is bright all the time in placing his characters in circumstances where they must also acclimate or rupture and uses his comical sense while writing. Dodo Wonders is as lively and jovial as the other stories in the series while keeping a sense of gravity on its theme.

Edward Frederic "E. F." Benson was a British author, biographer, memoirist, archaeologist and short story author.

Benson's first book was Sketches from Marlborough. He started his novel literary career with the then smartly provocative Dodo in 1893, which was a prompt success, and followed it with a range of fun, love and unnatural scenes. He recurred the popularity of Dodo, which starred a fierce sketch of composer and militant suffragette Ethel Smyth which she joyfully agreed, concurring to actress Prunella Scales, with the same characters a few decades later: Dodo the Second in 1914, "a unique chronicle of the pre-1914 Bright Young Things" and Dodo Wonders in 1921, "a first-hand social history of the Great War in Mayfair and the Shires". The Mapp and Lucia series, written later in his career, comprising of six books and two short fictions.
