Cincinnati: R. W. Carroll & Co., 1866. First Edition. Cloth. Fair/No Jacket. Thee Jones. Hardcover/ no DJ; Fair+ to Good condition. Stitched text block, Lincoln endorsement, 424 pages + adverts. (approx. 10 pgs.), 8 full page illus. (all present & attached). Appears to be 1st printing, c. 1865, year 1866 on title page- no note of further printings (editions""). Main problem- pgs 315 to 326 (1 sheaf/ signature) have pulled free of stitching- all together & present w/ no torn pages; book would otherwise be Good- no missing pages. Dark green binding w/ decorative stamped features square, but a bit loose (no endpaper hinge splits); light rubbing & soil, edge wear & corner fray- none severe. Gold spine lettering intact & totally legible. NO spine discolor. Tissue frontis protector & text show scattered foxing spots, but little toning- remarkably bright. A decent representative copy.
