About This Item
New York: Bollingen Foundation in association with Pantheon Books. 1962. Inscribed by Naum Gabo. Published as Vol. XXXV, No. 8 of the Bollingen Series, part of the The A.W. Mellon Lectures in the Fine Arts. Original grey textured cloth with black titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. Illustrated with 73 plates of which 15 are in colour. A very good or better copy, the binding square and firm, the contents clean throughout and with a slight crease not affecting text or illustrations to the upper edge of 4 pages. Complete with the original dustwrapper which has a couple of small chips to the top of the panel edges and small nicks to the tip of the faded spine. Inscribed by the sculptor, theorist and pioneer of the constructivist art movement in blue ink at the top of the front blank endpaper "For Nancy Thomas / Naum Gabo / Oct. 1964 / Breakneck Hill". Scarce thus. The recipient was a producer who along with Hugh Weldon was responsible for the BBC's flagship arts program "Monitor".
