Thick 8vo. xiii, [1], 354; x, 324 pp. Red ribbed cloth, gilt lettering on spines, t.e.g. (minor shelfwear), still a NF set, w/ bookplate on front pastdown of P.E. Bowles. First edition of this fascinating memoir of life and travel by Mary Crawford Fraser (d. 1922), wife of the British Minister to Japan, was well known for her missionary efforts in Asia. Of particular interest is the substantial portion of the second volume devoted to their life in Peking & China in the 1870s.
