Printed in Great Britain. 9.25 x 5.75 inches. Brown shagreen binding. [Or shagreen imitation via embossing.] Black stamped lettering to the spine. The binding has a beautiful hand and is in fine condition, with scarcely any evidence of wear. Unbumped spine head and tail, with sharp corners. The text block is firmly bound in. 575 numbered pages, including an index. With numerous B&W photo illustrations interspersed throughout, some half page and some full page. Slight age-toning to the pages, scarcely noticeable. Previous owner name in a neat ink hand to the front FEP. Discreet bookseller stamp at the bottom of the rear pastedown. A few marginal notes in light pencil, easily erased if the buyer so chooses. Else no demerits observed. There is no dust jacket present. A near fine copy. Weight 1 lb. 14 oz. Slipped in is a column from the NYT by Willaim Safire, The Murphy Commission, 26 May 1975. Ambassador Robert Murphy [1894-1978], the subject of the Safire column, was chairman of the Commission on the Reorganization of the Government for the Conduct of Foreign Policy. In various capacities, Murphy served under most of the presidents from Harry Truman to Jimmy Carter.
