About This Item
London: Thames and Hudson, 1984. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Very Good+. Cloth, fine, in lightly rubbed jacket. With photo-illustrations. Inscribed by the author to Douglas Fairbanks, Junior. From the estate of Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. (1909-2000), an iconic American actor (credited with more than 50 films, including the starring role in Gunga Din), and a highly decorated naval officer of World War II. Dietrich sang "Song of Songs" opposite Fairbanks for Lux Radio Theatre in December 1937, though their personal and professional connections go much deeper than that. (They were lovers for a spell. Fairbanks admits in his memoir "A Hell of War" that she was "too sophisticated" for him.)
