About This Item

Wien: Osterreichischen Institutes fur Wirtschaftsforschung, 1946. First Printing. Wraps. Good. Wraps, 11.5 x 8.25 inches, good with wear, tanning, soil, etc., to covers, some wear and light loss to lower outer corner of cover and first several pages, pages quite tanned. 108 pp. This is the renamed continuation of "Monatsberichte des Österreichischen Institutes für Konjunkturforschung." This issue owes its existence to Franz Nemschak. At the end of the war he managed to get the Institute for Business Cycle Research [founded in 1927 by Von Mises, von Hayek, Morgenstern and Wagemann], which had been buried in the bombings of the Vienna Stock Exchange and with which he had been in contact before, working again. Nemschak also managed to gain the support of the new state government and the re-established economic policy associations, and named it Österreichisches Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung. Regardless of his initial proximity to the KPÖ and the end of its participation in government (1947), Nemschak was also part of the ERP office during the Marshall Plan period and engaged in the analysis of production structures and investment programs. He also produced studies that enabled the price and wage agreements rejected by the communists and the containment of the post-war inflation of the Austrian currency. This is an important and rare work on the economic rebirth of Austria.
