30 chalk-lithographed plates by Ludwig Sigmund Tröndlin after Dietrich Monten, of which 24 beautifully hand coloured, with an illustrated and lithographed front wrapper on green paper stock bound in as title. Near contemporary half calf on five raised bands, gilt label to second compartment. Endpapers and fly-leaves lined with multiple coloured snail marbled paper on a combed marbled pattern. Folio (450 x 350 mm).
Colas 2133 ; not in Lipperheide, Hiler and Pfister. First and only edition. Published in six instalments each with a black and white lithograph and 4 hand coloured lithographs. A magnificent copy, all leaves uncut, in bright contemporary hand colouring. Front paste-down with armorial bookplate of Konrad Prinz von Bayern from the Wittelsbach estate. The black and white chalk-lithographs show portraits of the generals of the Bavarian army on horseback, among them crown prince Maximilian, king Otto of Greece, Theodor Friedrich von Pappenheim, prince Constantin of Löwenstein Wertheim, and prince Carl of Wrede.
