About This Item

London, England: The Gregg Press Ltd., 1964. Classic text, reprnt of the original 1897 Paris edition, presents a Latin/French dictionary of over 8600 place names compiled principally from the historical and ecclesiastical viewpoint. This work eliminates the labor-intensive delays and frustration of locating Latin forms of place names in old books and manuscripts. Chevin's dictionary not only provides the French equivalent, but adds brief notes of geographical position and history. Includes lists, with historical notes, of the Popes and numerous religious Orders; and an appendix. 356 pgs. Prior owner's nameplate pastedown on front endpaper. Corners very slightly rubbed; spine slightly darkened from age, spine edges very slightly bumped; minor tiny scuff marks on rear cover. Tan-colored full leather tight binding; text clean. Very scarce. . Reprint. Full-Leather. Near Fine. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
