"One of the fundamental Books on Hawaii. This is the first full-scale dictionary of the Hawaiian language and the basis of all subsequent dictionaries". Inscribed "Rev. Samuel J. Andrews with the respects of his cousin / The Author". Later book label and signature of James Hammond Trumbull, historian, philologist, Connecticut Secretary of State and first state librarian.
