Ure's compendious dictionary contains listings on substances such as arrow root, beer, bones, mordant, and pitch, as well as manufacturing processes such as button making, calico printing, dyeing, and metallurgy. A remarkable portrait of materials, arts and manufacturing processes in the middle of the nineteenth century. This is the first American edition.
