Gilt title and decoration on front cover. New black cloth spine with original spine overlaid. vii + 433 pp.; Bw frontis of Benjamin West by Matthew Pratt. Fronting Preface of Washington by Gilbert Stuart. 17 additional bw plates. A bit heavy at 6 pounds and will require extra postage. Exhaustive list of artists. Plates include several of Washington and a selection of/by Gilbert Stuart, the Peales, and a few others. A scarce edition printed by the Lancaster Press of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
