An impressive series of portraits made by an artist who was a witness of historical events changed world history. The portraits depict political figures of the Bolshevik Party — V. I. Lenin, A. M. Kollontai, Ya. M. Sverdlov, A. G. Zheleznyakov, A.V. Lunacharsky and many others.
Yuri Konstantinovich Artsybushev (1877-1952), an artist. In 1898, he entered the architectural department of the Higher Art School at the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg, but did not finish the course. Since 1905, he published a satirical magazine of the democratic direction "Spectator", for which he was sentenced to imprisonment for 2.5 years in a fortress, but was acquitted on a cassation appeal to the Senate. In 1908, he moved to Moscow, being a member of the Moscow Literary and Artistic circle, he collaborated in the magazine "Krivoe Zerkalo", the newspaper "Rus'". He created a series of portraits of outstanding figures of Russian culture. After the February revolution and during the Civil War, he created a series of portraits of revolutionary figures and leaders of the white movement. Y. K. Artsybushev painted in Smolny, at meetings of the Petrograd Soviet, the State Conference and the Constituent Assembly. Since 1918, he lived in the south in Kiev and Odessa. In 1920, he emigrated. He lived in Algeria, France, and Italy. In 1946, he returned to the USSR, was exiled to Kazakhstan (in 1952).
The covers are separated from the block. Scuffs and losses at the edges. The block is mostly clean. Rare book, WorldCat sees only two copies in USA ( New York Public Library and Stanford University).
