In 16º de 10,2x5,8 cm. Com 205, [i] págs. Encadernação da época inteira de pele, profusamente ornamentada com elaborados ferros a ouro nas lombadas e nas pastas, que apresentam ao centro as armas reais de Portugal, com a cruz de Cristo pendente sobre fundo vermelho e ladeada por quatro florões sobre fundo preto. Cortes das folhas dourados e ornamentados com padrão de pequenas incisões lavradas em baixo relevo.

Folha de rosto com a marca do impressor ao centro por cima do pé de imprensa.

Exemplar com falta das páginas 2 a 30, com leves desgastes na encadernação, com faltas marginais de papel devido à acção de lepismatídeo e com uma assinatura de posse no verso da folha de guarda posterior.

Os exemplares desta publicação periódica anual são muito raros e a maior parte das vezes aparecem revestidos de belas encadernações como é o caso deste.

Muito importante para o estudo da história e do funcionamento das instituições da época, pelas numerosas informações que apresenta. Inocêncio elogia a sua utilidade literária, com informações úteis e instrutivas.

Contém um calendário religioso, uma pequena descrição de Portugal, (que nesta época, e desde 1815, era designado por Reino Unido de Portugal e do Brasil e Algarves), catálogos dos reis e das rainhas de Portugal, uma notícia dos principais reinos da Europa, uma lista dos cardeais, os dias das audiências Reais, os dias em que os tribunais funcionavam, os dias em que não havia despacho nos tribunais, os dias de Gala na Corte, informações astronómicas, as horas do nascimento e ocaso do Sol, quadro com as enchentes e vazantes das marés, e uma lista cronológica das feiras que se realizavam em Portugal. As páginas finais incluem a Provisão Real de 3 de Outubro de 1823 e o índice.

P. Vicente Ferreira de Sousa Brandão (Lisboa, 1789 -? ), Padre da Congregação do Oratório S. Filipe Nery de Lisboa, professou na casa do Espírito Santo, em 26 de Fevereiro de 1806. Foi educado no Seminário dos Meninos Orfãos, fundado pelo P. António Luís de Carvalho. Por muitos anos foi encarregado da coordenação do calendário, com o título de Diário Eclesiástico e Civil para o Reino de Portugal, mais conhecido pela denominação vulgar de Folhinha d’Algibeira, que a Congregação publicava anualmente, sob privilégio exclusivo que para isso obtivera do Rei D. João V.

Depois de extinta a Congregação, em 1834, e com ela o privilégio, o P. Vicente Ferreira continuou por conta própria a publicação, e a partir de 1849 deu lhe outra forma e título – “ALMANAK FAMILIAR”.

[EN] In Sextodecimo (sixteenmo). 10.2x5.8 cm. Contemporary full leather binding, profusely ornamented with elaborate gold tooling on the spines and on the pages, which depict in the centre the royal coat of arms of Portugal, with the cross of Christ hanging over a red background and flanked by four fleurons on a black background. The edges are gilded and decorated with a pattern of small incisions carved in low relief.

Clear title page with printer"s device in the centre above the press foot.

Copy with pages 2 to 30 missing, light signs of wear on the binding, marginal paper missing due to lepismatid action and with an handwritten ownership title on the verso of the rear flyleaf.

Copies of this annual periodical are very rare and most often appear in beautiful bindings as is the case.

Contains a religious calendar, a short description of Portugal (which at that time, and since 1815, was called the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves), catalogues of the kings and queens of Portugal, news of the main kingdoms of Europe, a list of cardinals, the days of the Royal Audiences, the days when the courts were open, the days when there was no court order, Gala days at Court, astronomical information, the sunrise and sunset times, a table showing the tidal floods and ebbs, and a chronological list of the fairs that were held in Portugal. The final pages include the Royal Provision of 3 October 1823 and the index.

P. Vicente Ferreira de Sousa Brandão (Lisbon 1789 - ) Priest of the Congregation of the Oratorio S. Filipe Nery of Lisbon, professed in the House of the Holy Spirit, on 26 February 1806. He was educated in the Seminary for orphan boys, founded by Father Antonio Luís de Carvalho. For many years he was in charge of the coordination of the calendar, which under the title of 'Diario eclesiástico e civil para o reino de Portugal', better known by the common name of 'Folhinha d’algibeira', which the Congregation published annually, under the exclusive privilege that it obtained from King João V.

After the Congregation was extinguished in 1834, and with it the privilege, Fr. Vicente Ferreira continued the publication on his own, and from 1849 gave it another form and title – “ALMANAK FAMILIAR”
