Oxford (John Henry and James Parker), 1856. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 170 pages. Translation of the Greek Devotions, done from the 1675 edition. Prefatory note signed "J.H.N" - John Henry Cardinal Newman. 4-3/4" x 7", leather bound with decorative black tooling, raised bands on spine, gilt lettering on label on spine, all edges stained red, marbled end papers, decorative red rule frames text on each page; leather is rubbed, stained, 3" split along spine at bottom front, chipped at crown and heel, hinges loose but not cracked. Book shop sticker (William George's Sons, Bristol) affixed to front pastedown. Prices in pencil and names of three former owners (1858, 1897, 1951) written on front end papers. Light foxing to some pages, but no writing observed.
