London: Hutchinson 286 pp, 8 3/4" H. Red cloth with gilt lettering on spine. No date (c1935). 10 b&w plates, including frontispiece (all present). "This book is not fiction. It is not even fiction with a basis in fact. It recounts only actual incidents in which I took part as an agent of L'Espionage Centrale, the Secret Service of the French Foreign Legion, in Tunis and Syria. With the exception of a few pseudonyms, there is no departure from strict accuracy." From the Foreword. Previous owner's small name stamp on front pastedown, minor browning on some preliminary pages and on some rear pages, book is slightly cocked, wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, light wear at corners, slight fading to spine color, very light browning to edges of text block with one small foxing mark on fore-edge. Hard Cover. Very Good -/No Jacket.

Hutchinson & Co. (Publishers), Ltd, 1935. 1st. Hardback. Very Good. Signed. SIGNED and inscribed first edition hardback, 1935, with no jacket. In overall very good used condition with minor signs of age, handling and storage - red cloth boards rubbed to spine head. Binding tight and appears little read. Internally clean, no annotation - signed by the author (Operator 1384, aka J. H. Harvey, amongst other pseudonyms) with brief note of thanks to A. Santor (?); toning to page-ends but text and illustrations bright and clear throughout. Photographs available. Not an old library book.
