Herzog, Leipzig, in burgundy cloth, embossed gilt ornaments, gilt title on front board and spine, all edges are gilt, leather spine. Glossy endpapers. 'Deutsches Leben in Frieden und Arbeit' (German life in peace and work), frontispiece and 12 full-page lithographs, elaborately decorated. Text in two columns, divided on twelve chapters: 1. An Gottes Segen ist Alles gelegen (Everything is situated for God's blessing) 2. Die Sitte des Hauses (The custom of the house) 3. Unser taglich Brod gieb uns heute! (Our daily bread is giving us today!) 4. Arbeit des Geistes (Work of the mind) 5.Vorzeit und Gegenwart (Past and present) 6.Fur unser Volk ein herz (A heart for our people) 7. Kunst (Art) 8. Malerei und Skulptur (Painting and sculpture) 9. Poesie (Poetry) 10. Musik (Music) 11. Freies Burgerthum (Free citizenship) and 12.Nachruf (Obituary). 374 songs, psalms, poems etc. by Goethe, Homer, Schiller, Sappho, Shakespeare, Friedrich Halm, and many others. Condition: spine faded, rubbed, long cracked along front edge, corners and spine ends bent and chipped, endpapers slightly soiling. Internally sound and clean, all lithographs are in fine condition, protected by tissue-guard. .
