Illustrated with 24 leaves of tissue-guarded collotype plates and 236 in-text illustrations, primarily black and white, with some of them sepia or red. Unumbered copy of the limited edition and signed by Édouard Detaille on the limitation page. Bound in 1/2 maroon leather with matching marble paper covered boards and raised bands with gilt titles present to the spine. Boards have light wear present to the extremities of the boards. Small bookplate present to the reverse of the front board. Foxing present. Notes present to the table of contents. Text is clean and free of marks. Binding tight and solid. A study of the work of French artist Edouard Detaille (1848-1912) , who was the official painter of the battles of the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871 and became renowned for his paintings of soldiers, military life and manoeuvres, and uniforms.
