About This Item

N. P.: N. P., 1765. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. 12mo. 235 pages. Hardcover in full brown leather with a black label pastedown on spine. The binding shows heavy rubbing and wear and scuffs to the leather. Corners are rubbed down to boards. The front hinge is cracking, and the foot of the spine is chipped. Leather at headcap is split for one inch on both sides. Spine is scuffed. The gilt designs on the spine are very faint, missing in some places. All edges of the text block are red. The endpapers are marbled. The recto side of the front flyleaf has pencilled notation. The text is toned and has some occasional foxing. No publisher or place printed. Worldcat suggests London, Edinburgh, and France. We would have expected Paris. Jean le Rond d'Alembert (1717-1783) was a French mathematician, physicist, philosopher, and co-editor of Encyclopedie by Diderot.
