London, The Royal Society, 1771. 4to (23.0 x 18.0 cm). 7 pp. [numbered 107-113], one large, double-folded plate [Tab. IV]. Later marbled wrappers. = In this paper a new equatorial telescope is described and beautifully illustrated. Edward Nairne (1728-1806) was a British optician and scientific instrument maker. "Nairne patented several electrical machines, including an electrostatic generator ... in the early 1770s, Edward Nairne constructed the first successful marine barometer...Nairne's first marine barometer was sent on James Cook's second voyage to the South Pacific" (Wikipedia). Published in the Society's "Philosophical Transactions", volume 61. A very good, clean copy. Hazeau & Lancaster II, p. 891.
